About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role:

Anthropic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physical Security Campus Security Manager to join our team to lead our operations at our largest campus. As a key member of our team, you will work with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the security and safety of our facilities, employees, and assets. Your role is pivotal in developing a culture where safety, security, and resiliency are integrated into every facet of Anthropic, from our groundbreaking AI research to our daily operations. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all employees, visitors, and assets across our campus facilities, fostering a secure and welcoming environment that aligns with our company's values and culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive campus security strategies that align with the company's growth and evolving threats.
  • Team Leadership: Train and motivate a diverse team of security personnel and vendors, fostering a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement.
  • Emergency Response: Lead and coordinate emergency response efforts, ensuring rapid and effective reactions to incidents such as fires, medical emergencies, or security breaches.
  • Community Relations: Build strong relationships with local law enforcement, emergency services, and community leaders to enhance campus security.
  • Policy Development: Create and update campus security policies and procedures, ensuring they comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Access Control: Partner in administration of access control systems, managing permissions, and auditing access logs.
  • Investigation Management: Direct and conduct investigations into security incidents, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventive measures.
  • Security Technology: Work with IT and cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize campus security technologies.
  • Budget Management: Manage the campus security budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
  • Security Awareness: Design and deliver security awareness programs to educate employees about potential risks and best practices.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • You have a passion for creating safe, secure environments that foster productivity and well-being.
  • You possess strong leadership skills and have experience managing diverse security teams.
  • You have a proven track record in developing and implementing campus security strategies.
  • You are adept at building relationships with various stakeholders, including law enforcement and community leaders.
  • You have excellent crisis management skills and can lead effectively under pressure.
  • You are knowledgeable about physical security technologies and their applications in a campus setting.
  • You have strong analytical skills to interpret security data and make data-driven decisions.
  • You are an effective communicator, able to convey security concepts to a wide audience.

  • You have experience and knowledge with local fire code and other related regulatory concerns.

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

  • Have experience securing high-profile or high-risk campus environments
  • Possess advanced degrees in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or related fields
  • Have certifications such as CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or PSP (Physical Security Professional)

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

US visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate; operations roles are especially difficult to support. But if we make you an offer, we will make every effort to get you into the United States, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
