An opening is available for Pliant's Summer Internship Program with the Legal department! We have a summer internship available for a college, law or business school student looking to gain knowledge and experience in Pliant’s Legal department. The Legal Intern will provide support on a variety of legal and business management initiatives, including corporate governance, securities filings, company transactions, intellectual property, healthcare compliance, privacy and security, and employment, among others (including, and perhaps especially, areas where YOU have an interest). This is a great opportunity for an intellectually curious student to learn about the fascinating world of biotechnology and drug development.

This is not a remote role; our office is located in South San Francisco. Pliant’s Internship Program will start June 10^th and end August 9^th.

Responsibilities

• Conduct extensive research and complete special projects as needed.
• Respond to queries from internal clients.
• Attend meetings with the Legal team and other colleagues.
• Assist in the preparation for Pliant’s annual meeting.
• Review and draft securities filings.
• Draft, review and redline basic legal agreements and documents, including consulting agreements and advisory board agreements, and perform any related due diligence activities.
• Review and provide comments on medical and commercial materials from a legal perspective.
• Work with Pliant business groups to understand and find efficient, practical solutions to their legal requirements.
• Create Legal team operational documents.
• Assist with the sourcing, qualifying and implementation of legal tech tools.
• Other tasks depending on the business needs of the organization.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, abilities and prior experience required.

• At least 18 years of age.
• Currently enrolled at an accredited law school and already completed one semester/quarter.
• 1-2 years’ work experience in a customer facing role, e.g. retail, restaurant, warehouse.
• Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Exceptional organizational, written and oral communication and project management skills.
• Great attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information using excellent discretion and judgment.
• Self-motivation and ability to work both independently and as a team player.
• Ability to be flexible and willing to accept new responsibilities in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
• Must be available for the entire length of the program.

Pliant requires all interns to be fully vaccinated prior to their start date. (subject to any legally required exemptions).

The hourly rate for undergraduate students is $20/hr and $22/hr for graduate students.
