Job Summary

The SVP, Credit Risk is a key member of the senior leadership team. This role is accountable for defining, developing, implementing, and monitoring policy and procedure in support of all first line credit risk related initiatives. Additionally, this role will also provide appropriate credit risk analysis to Finance in support of CECL modeling, the Credit Risk Management Committee (CRMC,) as well as senior leadership and the Board on credit and lending decisions, and perform credit monitoring and loss forecasting of all loans.

Job Description

Strategy - Accountable for all first line credit risk management strategies including acquisition, judgmental lending, account management (credit line, authorization, and promotability), collections segmentation, and reactivation across all lending products (credit cards, personal loans, and installment lending/BNPL). Establish and maintain a strong credit culture that balances growth and asset quality in support of the Bank’s strategic plan. Identify portfolio trends and other economic factors and recommend appropriate proactive measures for effective first line strategies and an ongoing early warning system.

Leadership - Ensure the team maintains a high level of leadership and credit skills by holding self and direct reports responsible for developing talent and bench strength, while advancing the Bank’s DEI efforts. Ensure accuracy of work, meet all internal and external reporting requirements, and ensure appropriate full scope of information is available for decision-making at all levels. Develop and maintain exceptional knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, borrowers, and portfolios. Support IR and external communication in terms of trends, behavioral credit risk analytics, and talking points.

Collaboration - Partner with Finance to set appropriate loan loss provision and allowance. Advise the XLT, Bank Board, Board of Directors, and members of the Executive Leadership Team on credit matters and report as appropriate. Closely collaborate with Fraud, Digital, Client Partnerships, Marketing, Finance, Enterprise Data Sciences & Analytics, and Collections to ensure that annual and long-range planning is both considerate of credit risk and that credit risk can support key initiatives across the business in line with our risk appetite at accretive returns. Ensure strong communication and participation with Client Partnerships and Finance in the General Manager (GM) model.

Risk Management - Review existing and new client relationships for credit quality as well as overall credit quality of loans and portfolios. Develop, direct, and implement systems, scores, models, risk controls, and policies and procedures in support of business objectives in line with risk appetite and return metrics. Lead the development and approval of progressive and competitive lending, and Credit Quality Review policies and procedures to ensure accretive returns and that results remain within the Bank’s risk appetite metrics. Work closely with the Bank and second line Credit Risk Management to maintain strong regulatory relationships and favorable examinations.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment. As a senior leader, must work at a Bread Financial office at least 6 days per month.
  • Ability to travel 6 days a month if not located near a Bread Financial office.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in credit risk, finance or business administration; or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years of experience working in financial services, first line credit risk management, or a related role with a $10B+ loan portfolio.
  • 15+ years of experience leading a team of people in a professional setting.
  • Must work from a Bread Financial office at least 5 days a month. If needed, travel is required because of this.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in finance, business administration, or statistical analysis.

Typical Starting Range:

$258,700.00 - $572,700.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $297,500.00 - $715,900.00

Colorado: $258,700.00 - $601,400.00

New York: $284,600.00 - $715,900.00

Washington: $271,600.00 - $658,800.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safety Time per calendar year at the beginning of each year and is prorated in the associate’s first year of employment.

Hired associates will be able to elect to purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
