This position is part of our broader Data & Research team, and as a security researcher you will focus on data analysis and research that drives forward marketing initiatives to promote market awareness and product capabilities, and develop the brand in the cybersecurity industry by drafting and presenting narratives to diverse audiences representative of our customers and the cyber security community. In addition, you will collaborate with fellow internal and external researchers, product and engineering groups to support new data sets and analytical capabilities.

Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Write and publish responsive content whose topics are sourced from the current cybersecurity and threat landscape, delivered through our blog and webinars.

  • Develop engaging narratives through original research, writing, and presentations in support of marketing activities, product development, and customer engagements to promote key findings and capabilities.

  • Perform data analysis with the purpose of understanding new and existing ways to gain information about the cybersecurity risk profiles of companies and organizations relevant to further enable effective research of newsworthy cybersecurity events.

  • Promote and present research through industry and cybersecurity conferences.

  • Partner with product marketing, data science, vulnerability research, and malware research teams to determine viable research marketing strategies and initiatives.

  • High attention to detail and ability to assure data quality by developing methods for data curation, cleaning, and modeling.

  • Review and provide feedback on product and research content produced by other members of the data & research teams.

  • Establish a strong understanding of how data records are collected and what they imply, becoming a subject matter expert in our observables.

  • Be contextually aware of changes in first-party and third-party data feeds, and capable of suggesting enhancements to shape the data collection roadmap and partnerships.

Skills

  • Strong communication and analytical skills, including ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems.

  • Proven track record in security data analysis, presentation, and crafting narratives.

  • Familiarity with sources of cybersecurity-focused research reports and other investigative intelligence.

  • Subject matter background in computer and network security, malware analysis and other technical topics, and includes knowledge of a variety of L3 to L5 protocols, cryptography, and applications.

  • Proficient with programming languages, such as Python, Java, and/or Scala.

  • Prior experience and/or willing to learn big data processing technologies such as Spark.

  • Capable of being self-motivated and operating autonomously on projects, or with others in a team.

  • Ownership mentality and entrepreneurial drive.

Education

Masters, PhD, or commensurate professional experience.

The anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is US$180,000 to $200,000 annually for US-based employees. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, is based on a full-time work schedule, and is Bitsight’s good faith estimate as of the date of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for participation in a bonus or commission plan and an equity grant. Bitsight also offers a competitive benefits package, including but not but limited to medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid parental leave; flexible time off; a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities; life and disability insurance; and tuition reimbursement.
