We are looking for a Payroll Manager who will own the full cycle payroll functions for 6 of our EMEA payroll entities in Switzerland, UK, Germany, France, and Republic of Ireland. This role will report to the Global Controller at the US headquarter office, and partner closely with the US Payroll, US/EMEA People, Accounting, Tax and Equity teams.   • Ensure EMEA payroll operations are best-in-class! We will rely on you in making sure payroll transactions are accurate and compliant, and our employees are paid on time every time.
  • Represent as the subject matter expert on various payroll topics, including but not limited to country specific tax treatments on benefits, stipends, equity transactions (i.e. US issued options and RSUs); pension calculations; leave and separation pays; shadow payroll, etc.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax remittances as well as informational and statutory compliance filings.
  • Develop EMEA payroll operating procedures and implement best practices to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain organized and up to date recordkeeping of payroll reports, supporting documents, payroll validation and reconciliation workbooks sufficient to ensure payroll data integrity and to provide timely and reliable information for the Accounting team to reference in monthly financial closing processes.
  • Be a proactive and engaging business partner by supporting the EMEA HR/benefit operations. This may involve sharing activities around pension plans, leave and time-off management as well as contributing to policy reviews.


  • 6+ years of experience processing payroll in European countries (Switzerland and UK desired)
  • Payroll tax and compliance proficiency
  • Hands on experience in processing payroll and generating reports using a payroll platform and an HRIS (CloudPay and WorkDay desired)
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines
  • High degree of EQ as a reliable and effective team member
  • Maturity and integrity to be trusted with confidential data
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite with intermediate skills in Excel

Nice to Haves but not required:

  • Experience in setting up a new payroll entity
  • Payroll accounting experience or knowledge
  • Familiarity with payroll SOX compliance
  • US payroll experience or knowledge
  • Reasonable flexibility to accommodate the US business hours


Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location.
