Compliance Oversight Lead
Anthropic
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
We are looking for a Compliance Oversight Lead to build and lead the operational infrastructure that enables Anthropic's Integrity & Compliance (I&C) function to operate effectively. This role is responsible for the systems, processes, and reporting mechanisms that support all compliance pillars—ensuring consistency, visibility, and accountability across the function.
Our global compliance program is bespoke, reflecting our unique mission and position as one of the leading AI labs operating on the frontier. Our Compliance Oversight pillar comprises a key pillar of our overall Integrity and Compliance function. Compliance Oversight will create and maintain the frameworks, policies, and oversight mechanisms that enable Anthropic to meet its commitments to employees, customers, regulators, and the public—building trust through demonstrated accountability as the company scales.
Responsibilities:
- Own the compliance training program, working with subject matter experts across I&C to develop, deliver, and track completion of training that meets both regulatory requirements and organizational needs
- Manage the policy lifecycle—from drafting and approval workflows through version control, attestation, and accessibility—ensuring Anthropic's policies are current, coherent, and demonstrably communicated to employees
- Lead implementation and administration of a GRC system for Integrity & Compliance to serve as the central platform for compliance activities, including risk tracking, control documentation, and workflow management
- Design and execute testing and monitoring programs for key compliance controls, working with pillar SMEs to verify controls are functioning as intended and identify gaps before they become issues
- Coordinate responses to compliance-related due diligence requests from customers, partners, and investors
- Own issue management and tracking, ensuring compliance findings, exceptions, and remediation efforts are documented, assigned, and driven to closure with appropriate escalation
- Manage compliance vendor relationships and the I&C budget, providing the administrative foundation for the function's operations
- Develop and maintain compliance metrics and KPIs that demonstrate program effectiveness and maturity to internal and external stakeholders
- Build dashboards and reporting cadences that give leadership visibility into compliance activities across the function
- Prepare compliance reporting for leadership, synthesizing information from across pillars into coherent narratives about program health, key risks, and strategic priorities
- Continuously assess and improve I&C operational processes to ensure they scale with Anthropic's growth
You may be a good fit if you have:
- At least 10 years of experience in compliance, risk, internal audit, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity
- Experience implementing or administering GRC technology platforms
- Experience in implementing technology solutions for compliance tasks, creating efficiency and ensuring employees and partners have effective ways of getting the information and support they need from Integrity & Compliance
- Strong understanding of compliance program fundamentals: policy management, training, controls testing, and reporting
- Ability to work effectively with subject matter experts across different compliance domains and translate substantive requirements into operational processes
- Experience preparing materials for senior leadership
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Strong vendor management skills with the ability to manage multiple vendor relationships and partners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strategic thinking combined with flexibility and solution-orientation
- Experience building compliance programs or functions from early stages
Strong candidates may have:
- Prior experience in a Big 4 or other compliance consulting or advisory professional services firm.
- Experience in a tech company or other fast-paced and hyper-scaling environment.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
