About The Job

The Head of Pharmacology will lead the design, implementation, and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo pharmacological studies that support the therapeutic pipeline at Xaira. You will be responsible for managing a team of scientists to design and perform pharmacology studies using existing and novel assays aimed at evaluating the effects of molecules across indications.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have a strong and established background in biochemistry and pharmacology and in vivo models to interrogate disease biology with a proven record of successfully leading a diverse team to enable novel therapeutics discovery. You will have experience with project leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, and both leading as well as contributing to cross-functional and matrixed teams. Additionally, you will have a working knowledge of various research areas including tumor biology, immunology, biochemistry, toxicology, and histology.

Responsibilities

• Establish, analyze, interpret, and document preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies with precision and attention to detail.
• Lead the development of in vivo models to support drug discovery and development.
• Oversee development of protocols for in vivo experiments, ensuring they comply with regulatory and ethical standards.
• Design, plan, and conduct in vivo studies, including assessment of PK, PD, efficacy, and safety of therapeutic candidates, ensuring robust and reproducible results.
• Provide strategic insight and technical leadership to cross-functional teams, guiding drug discovery projects from inception through IND-enabling studies.
• Keep up to date with scientific literature and advancements in the field to inform experimental design and strategy.
• Train and mentor junior staff and technicians in in vitro and in vivo techniques and best practices.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to contribute to the overall drug discovery and development process.
  
  

Qualifications

• PhD with postdoctoral studies in Biology, Immunology, or equivalent field with a robust publication record in leading scientific journals.
• 10+ years of work experience in biotech or pharma with a focus on pharmacology and leadership of highly effective teams.
• Proven experience with in vitro and in vivo models in oncology, immunology, and/or neuroscience.
• Demonstrated expertise in the management of CROs, including evaluation, selection, process establishment, and quality control.
• Strong ability to work cross-functionally, collaborating effectively with diverse teams to achieve project milestones.
