Company Overview

Kinetic Automation is building a network of automated repair centers for modern vehicles. The auto industry is transitioning from mechanically complex vehicles to mechanically simple ones with complex software and technology. Kinetic aims to be the primary infrastructure-as-a-service for servicing future vehicles with our robotic repair centers, powered by our proprietary software and AI. We are a strong team of experienced robotics + automotive + shared mobility enthusiasts who have worked in self-driving, mapping, lidar, motorsport, ride-sharing and ghost kitchens. We are a venture backed startup (Series A) with a clear go-to-market strategy and a line of sight to meaningful revenue.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team to design, prototype, and build end effector tooling, sensor fixtures, and other accessories for our robotic system. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and prototyping our robots' mechanical components and developing and executing a prototyping cycle that enables quick iteration and testing. In addition, the candidate should have experience with mechanical simulation, force analysis, and failure analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components for our robotic system using CAD software (Fusion360, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Create and implement prototyping cycles that enable quick iteration and testing using a variety of manufacturing methods.
  • Develop and execute test plans for mechanical components, and analyze test data to optimize designs.
  • Conduct mechanical simulations, force analysis, and failure analysis to assess design feasibility.
  • Assemble, test, and refine prototypes in-house.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software developers, to ensure cohesive design and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Work independently to develop unique and innovative solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and prototyping, preferably in the robotics industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CAD software (Fusion360, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Experience in developing and executing prototyping cycles, including rapid prototyping.
  • Strong understanding of DFM best practices.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with making own prototypes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with mechanical simulations, force analysis, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of design projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with the latest manufacturing techniques and materials.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and Incentive Stock Options.
  • Comprehensive health and dental insurance.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Employee discounts on company products and services.
