The Problems You'll Solve

At Carta, our employees set out on a mission to unlock the power of equity ownership for more people in more places. We believe that the problems we solve today unlock the opportunities of tomorrow.

In 2018 we entered the Fund Administration business because we saw that the process of managing private market investments was wildly inefficient. In the public markets, you could login to your brokerage account anytime to see your investments, their cost, and their value. In the private markets, you hired an accountant and waited a quarter or more to get a spreadsheet. We changed the market with the first real time Schedule of Investments (SOI). Investors could login at any point and see an up to date view of their investments, cost and value.

In the last five years, we’ve been building the platform to unlock the future of fund administration. We launched our own proprietary general ledger and “Event-Based Accounting” framework. We’ve embedded deeply with our customers to understand thousands of complex workflows. And we’ve automated the nitty gritty parts of the business like LP allocations, waterfalls, capital calls, and management fees. As a result Carta Fund Admin has grown from an idea many thought was impossible to a business that manages over $130B in assets for the world’s top venture and private equity investors.

But we’re still at the beginning of our journey. The challenge now is to orchestrate all of this infrastructure, automation, and our service team to create an unparalleled client experience. We need to make each client task flow through our system seamlessly so the work is done quickly and accurately. The ultimate vision is one in which we can remove fund managers from the minutiae of busywork to focus on what really matters: fundraising, developing investment theses, and getting deals done.

As the VP of Product for Fund Administration, you’ll partner with your business and engineering partners to lead this business into its next chapter. You’ll help solve problems like:

  • How do we build for scale while ensuring that we deliver a delightful customer experience?
  • How can we create a fund onboarding experience that creates transparency and sets our clients up for a successful long-term relationship with Carta.
  • How realtime can we make our data? What needs to change upstream in our business or in the industry to go even faster?
  • How do we enable a fundamental shift from fund managers interacting with their admin over email to interacting with their admin via software?

The Team You'll Work With

The Fund Administration business is an established business within Carta, but it is still Day 1 for this product. There are enormous challenges to be solved, and enormous opportunities if we can do it. You’ll be joining an organization that cares deeply about building delightful experiences for GPs and LPs, has a deep understanding of the ecosystem, and understands the responsibilities we have to our customers.

As VP of Fund Admin, you’ll have an experienced team of product leaders reporting to you. You’ll work with a broader team of engineers, designers, customer service representatives, delivery team members and more. As a P&L owner of the Fund Administration business, you’ll make capital allocation decisions across all functions and sub-businesses with your trifecta partners.

About You

Here are some of the attributes we’re looking for in our new leader. You are:

  • A doer and owner, able to create momentum in the business.
  • A learner, independently curious about the private markets.
  • A systems thinker who can break down complex processes and systems into simple models. Fund Admin is both wide and deep. The ability to simplify and reason about this as a system is critical.
  • A leader of leaders, who knows how to tailor their approach to the stage of the business and make-up of the team.
  • Someone with the product sense to build experiences that will transform user behavior for the industry.
  • A master in the craft of product management and company building.
  • Used to explaining your why, playing in the open, and great at bringing your team and organization along with you.
  • Perseverant, with the grit to withstand the ups and downs of a scaling business. You believe you can solve even the hardest problems.

At Carta, you’re not just an employee. You’re a builder who is creating infrastructure that accelerates innovation and empowers more ownership. Cartans are helpful, relentless, unconventional and kind; representing Carta’s Identity Traits. They work collaboratively and cross functionally to challenge the status quo; working towards a common goal of creating more owners in the private markets.
