About the role

The National Accounts Manager (called Advisor Relationship Manager internally) will be vital in building out and driving our Advisor relationships with firms across both our Advisor custody and record keeping businesses. This individual will grow revenue by identifying new home office level business opportunities and will drive those opportunities to close. They’ll also be responsible for maintaining and growing the ongoing partnership.

This role will report directly to the Head of Relationship Management in the Betterment for Advisors business segment.

This role will be remote or based out of the New York City headquarters. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. The actual compensation offered will be based on candidate experience and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.

  • New York City: $110,000 - $120,000 + Commission

This job is eligible for variable compensation in the form of a commission bonus. For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

A day in the life

  • Identify and cultivate a pipeline of firm-level institutional relationships across both wealth and retirement prospects including top broker/dealers, aggregators and retirement plan specialists
  • Sign new firm-level relationships with Financial Institutions to drive revenue for the custody and retirement platforms at Betterment
  • Develop a joint GTM with the firm relationships you have brought on. Track and measure results and iterate where needed to improve outcomes
  • Manage existing firm-level relationships to expand revenue with those firms
  • Partner closely with marketing to develop marketing campaigns to activate new approved firm’s advisors and grow the total number of advisors
  • Partner closely with the Relationship Management and Sales teams to effectively coordinate business development efforts within firms where we have the most opportunity
  • Conduct business reviews with partners to ensure alignment and drive mutual benefits in the partnership
  • Responsible for forecasting, pipeline management, and reporting of partner revenue and overall relationship
  • Guide business unit strategy and manage monthly/quarterly results/narrative with executive stakeholders
  • Ensure effective and consistent use of Salesforce
  • Provide “voice of the client and industry” to marketing and product management to drive roadmaps

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years business development experience working in B2B FinTech sales and/or financial services
  • 4+ years of experience and strong track record in relationship management with financial services firms, exceeding revenue targets throughout
  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry, key firms and industry dynamics
  • Experience and track record selling to and collaborating with C-suite executives at financial institutions
  • Ability to articulate and manage performance expectations at executive level
  • Expertise in the latest prospecting tools and methodologies
  • Curiosity and interest in financial products and retirement planning
  • Demonstrated track record of high performance
  • High energy and willingness to learn
  • Self motivated and adaptable to change
  • Ability to give and receive feedback - you will collaborate with our sales team to drive process improvements
  • Experience with sales technology stacks like Outreach and Salesforce
  • Strong communication skills
  • National travel expectations of 25-40% of your time

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
